The Village: A Return to When We Were All Watching Together

Animation played a major role in millennial life. Back when cable television ran the culture, we were all in sync. Before social media, everybody wasn’t scattered across a million different timelines—most of us were literally on the same page, watching the same shows, quoting the same moments, and building the same shared memories.

Now, everything moves through virality. You can argue we’re less connected in perspective—but more connected in awareness. We all know what’s trending… even if we’re not experiencing the same things at the same time.

The Village is a love letter to that earlier era.

It’s an animated comedy series set in a different time—centered around the life of the protagonist, Jamaal, and his three closest friends: lifelong neighbors who grew up together and moved through the world as a unit.

The story takes place in a 20-building co-op complex on the outer edges of Queens, New York—a world of its own. The kind of place that feels like a small city inside a city. A community packed with characters everyone knows and recognizes: the OGs on the benches, the kids outside every day, the workers who keep the whole place running, the parents and grandparents whose voices shape the block as much as the buildings do.

The show explores social issues that were real to the late ’90s and early 2000s, through the lens of humor, neighborhood logic, and that specific kind of coming-of-age pressure that only exists when you’re growing up in a tight community where everybody knows your business.

Across the series, the boys face challenges, lessons, obstacles, and victories—and every episode lands with an underlying lesson, the kind that quietly shapes who you become. Because the truth is: even when you start together, life doesn’t always keep you together.

The Village is about how four individuals were formed—before they eventually went their separate ways.

The series is currently in production, and episodes are planned to begin releasing as early as 2027.

This is just the beginning. More soon.
